Jeremy Lin has a torn meniscus and will undergo surgery on his right knee to repair the damage.
He is expected to be out at least six weeks following the surgery. Lin hurt the knee during the Pistons game last Saturday and took and MRI following that game to assess the damage. If the Knicks make the playoffs he may be able to return by the second round should the Knicks advance that far.
This is a real stomach punch for this team. Lin had been such an amazing story and now to couple this with the loss of Amar’e and the injuries stifling the rest of this roster, it couldn’t come at a worse time. I’m hoping this will be a short recovery and he’ll be good to go come playoff time, I’m just not so sure now that the Knicks will be able to make it there.
All those fans (especially Tommy Dee of the TheKnicksblog.com) who have been clamoring for an increased role for Douglas, you got your wish. Not saying that these people were hoping Douglas would play at the expense of Lin, but they’ve been calling for Douglas to see and increased role and now he will have that opportunity. I’m hoping that the time he has spent on the bench since the inception of Linsanity has taught him a little about the game. Slow things down, don’t be reckless and wait for your shot. All those elements were missing from his game earlier in the season.
It’s time for this team to grit its teeth, dig in and keep fighting on. Next man up… and if this is the end of Linsanity for 2012, thanks a lot Jeremy. It was a blast.
