According to numerous stories, but which was first reported by Yahoo!’s Marc Spears:
“Amar’e Stoudemire cut his hand while punching a fire extinguisher casing in the New York Knicks’ locker room after the team’s loss to the Miami Heat Monday night.”
The Knicks beat reporters are all over this on twitter as well. Al Iannazzone reported that Amare’s arm was in a sling following the incident and his hand heavily taped. Marc Berman chimed in that the Knicks’ forward is also expected to receive ex-rays tomorrow on his arm.
Great, so not only are the Knicks missing Shumpert and Lin, now their $100 million dollar center is out of commission as well. Could things be any worse?
I really had expectations for this team to be competitive this series but that hope is lost. Anthony can’t be the entire offense, they have no point guard to facilitate anything and the Heat’s defense has been stifling. Also, there has been zero energy on the floor since the first quarter of game one. That second quarter of game one burst this teams bubble.
There no longer is any urgency. I don’t even think they believe themselves that they can do this. The Heat are a very good basketball team and have been one of the best in the league since James took the floor for them last October, but they are beatable. This Knicks roster does just not match-up well with the Heat’s athleticism. Let’s hope the Knicks can take one game in the Garden and then pray that some team can knock them off from their championship quest.
