Knicks guard Iman Shumpert was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team on Tuesday.Shumpert received 15 first-team votes and 40 total points. Kawhi Leonard,Brandon Knight also received 40 point resulting in 7 members being placed on this years’ first team.
The remaining first team members include Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving, Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio, Klay Thompson and Kenneth Faried.
I’m happy for Shump just not sure he garnered a first team nomination, especially over players like Isaiah Thomas, who killed it for the Kings this season. Shumpert’s non-contact knee injury was pretty awful.
Here’s hoping to a full return to health for the Knicks key defensive stopper. The playoffs showed exactly how important Shumpert was to the Knicks defense this season, without his presence Wade and James destroyed the Knicks off the dribble. On the ball defenders like Shump are hard to come by in this league.
A healthy return for #21 will be a big part of the continued maturation of this team.
